SSC CGL · Government & Competitive Exams
SSC CGL interview: tell me about your hometown and one problem you would solve there.
Model answer
This question tests your awareness and civic thinking, so avoid a dry geography lesson. Begin with a warm, brief introduction to your hometown — its location, what it is known for, and one thing you are proud of. Then move quickly to a real, specific problem you have observed: poor waste management, unreliable public transport, gaps in government-school quality, youth unemployment, or water scarcity. Show that you understand the problem's causes rather than just naming it. Then offer a realistic, officer's-eye solution: what could be done with existing schemes, better administration, community involvement, or awareness, rather than an impractical wish list. Keep the solution grounded — improving how an existing programme is delivered is more credible than promising sweeping change. If you can, connect it to the post you are applying for. Speak about your town with genuine affection and responsibility; interviewers like candidates who care about where they come from and think constructively about it. End on a hopeful, practical note rather than a complaint, showing you see problems as things to be solved.
This is a guide to structure and approach, not a script to memorise — say it in your own words.
