SSC CGL interview: why do you prefer a government job over the private sector?

Give a balanced, mature answer rather than criticising the private sector. Explain the genuine pull of government service: the chance to work directly for citizens and contribute to the country, roles with real public responsibility, and a stable platform from which to build a long career. If the post is something like Income Tax or Audit, connect it to your interest in that domain — enforcing fairness, protecting public revenue, or bringing order to systems. It is fine to mention stability and social respect, but do not make them your only reasons, because that suggests you are avoiding hard work rather than seeking meaningful work. Show self-awareness by acknowledging that government jobs bring accountability, transfers, and their own pressures, and that you are prepared for them. Where you can, tie the choice to your own values or background, such as a family tradition of public service or a problem in your area you want to help fix. Interviewers reward sincerity and a sense of purpose, so keep it honest and specific to you.
