SBI PO interview: how would you convince a hesitant villager to open a bank account?

Model answer

Lead with empathy, not a sales pitch. First understand the hesitation — many people distrust banks, fear hidden charges, or find the paperwork intimidating. Address those fears directly and in simple language. Explain the concrete benefits in terms that matter to them: their money is safer than cash at home, a zero-balance Jan Dhan account costs nothing to maintain, government subsidies and wages come directly into the account, and they can build a record that helps them get a loan later. Use trusted local channels — mention that neighbours, the self-help group, or the panchayat already bank here — because social proof beats argument. Offer to handle the paperwork with them and to help set up simple tools like a passbook or a basic phone-based payment so they feel supported, not abandoned after signing. Reassure them about safety and how to avoid fraud. Close by treating it as a relationship, not a target: "Open it, try it for small savings, and see for yourself." This shows patience and genuine service, which is what the panel is testing.

This is a guide to structure and approach, not a script to memorise — say it in your own words.
