SBI PO interview: describe a time you showed leadership in a team.
Model answer
Use the STAR structure — Situation, Task, Action, Result — and pick a real, modest example rather than an inflated one. Set the scene briefly: a college fest, a group project, a sports team, or organising something in your community. State the task and the challenge, such as a tight deadline, a disengaged team, or limited resources. Spend most of your time on the action — what you personally did: how you divided work to people's strengths, resolved a disagreement, motivated the group, or stepped in when something went wrong. Be honest about your role and give credit to the team; claiming you did everything single-handedly reads as arrogance. Finish with a concrete result and, ideally, one line on what you learned about leadership, such as the value of listening before directing. For a banking role, choosing an example that shows responsibility, calm under pressure, and bringing people along works better than a purely academic achievement. Keep it under two minutes and make sure the story genuinely demonstrates leadership, not just participation.
This is a guide to structure and approach, not a script to memorise — say it in your own words.
